Design a compact strain wave (harmonic drive) gearbox with zero backlash, high precision and a 30:1 gear reduction ratio. This will lead to the gearbox generating 30x more torque, being able to produce Gear reduction ratio will be achieved with the flex spline having 60 teeth and the outer static flex spline having 62 teeth.
A strain wave gearbox is a type of compact and high-ratio gear system with excellent precision and torque characteristics. It consists of three main components: a wave generator, a flex spline, and an outer circular spline. The wave generator imparts a wave-like motion to the flex spline.
As the wave generator rotates, it causes the flex spline to deform, creating a series of elliptical shapes in the spline. The deformation of the flex spline causes it to engage and disengage with the teeth of the circular spline, creating a rolling motion. This rolling motion transfers the motion to the output shaft. for a full rotation of 360 degrees of the wave generator, the flex spline will change position or advance by two teeth.
Interfaces with the shaft of the stepper motor and houses a bearing that interfaces with the Half-static circular spline.
Matches the number of teeth on the flex splineĀ (60 teeth), holding it static when the shaft isn't moving.
Induces elliptical shape/wave like motion into the flex spline. Grooves are made to house 5.5mm steel balls between itself and the flex spline.
Interfaces with the wave generator, deforming into a elliptical shape which only moves when the shaft moves
Engages with the flex spline teeth, but has 62 teeth, creating the gear reduction ratio, causing a stronger output rotation.
Cover for the entire gear box, M3 screws are used to enclose the cover.
